The vast majority of the things we touch throughout the day
are paper in all its processes: cereal boxes, money, books, tickets for
parking, tissues and many more objects, which means we spend vast amounts each
year, which entails a major impact on the environment, which suffers much more
than is considered necessary to meet such financial demands. Here we speak of
recycled paper to protect the environment.
Recycled Paper for
the Environment
That is why we must become conscious to achieve a reduction in
consumption or responsible consumption, avoiding waste quantities needed and
encouraging the use of recycled paper, which helps a lot.
Environmental Paper Network
On this topic can be found posted on the Internet a report
by the Environmental Paper Network, a coalition dedicated to environmental
protection groups.
Its purpose is to raise constant complaints after reducing
paper consumption, increase the quantities recycled, among other measures to
optimize the life cycle of the product without harming Mother Nature.
Fundamentals of Report
These are the points that the report highlights:
- The creation process is terribly polluting paper: nothing less than the fourth contributor in terms of greenhouse gases. Furthermore, it constitutes 9% of the total carbon emissions in this industry.
- The paper products occupy 25% of landfills.
- The municipal garbage dumps represent a third of the methane emissions associated with men. And keep in mind that more methane is 23 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.
- If, for example, in the United States decline by at least 10% the use of paper, the issuance of 1.6 million tons of greenhouse gases could be avoided. Something like that would produce 280,000 cars running.
- Compared with virgin wood used, the resulting recycled paper consumes 44% less power, produce 38% less in terms of greenhouse gas, 41% less emission of particles, 50% less wastewater, less than 49% solid waste and, best of all, leaves intact the forest.
- In 2003, only 48.3% of office papers were recycled.
- The paper collected for recycling in general accounts for only 37% of the total allocation made.
- The sheets for writing or printing are the least likely to come from recycled: only 6% of them come out of this process. In this area wins the tissue paper (toilet paper, tissues, etc.), with 45%, and newsprint, with 32%.
- In ten years, will demand even more, calculated that this increase will be about 1.5 million tons each year that passes.
- While the paper industry invests in new machines and factories, virtually none of them use recycled products.
- China, India and the rest of Asia are the most consumed products made of paper each year. Require the least are the countries of Eastern Europe and Latin America.
- That if it is believed that the demand for recycled paper is growing by the consumers themselves, publishers, magazine publishers and other users of this precious treasure that is the role and this will produce rapid reforms in the industry.
We see that it is important recycled paper as it is
presented as the basic solution to the problem of deforestation, but of course
we have to consider or know, that must be done from proper procedures, since
often abused the chemical elements, which are extremely aggressive.
Paper Recycling Benefits
Paper recycling is increasingly necessary for several
reasons:
The main ingredient necessary for papermaking is cellulose,
and this comes from trees models. Pes say, for making paper, trees must be
felled, which contributes to the phenomenon called deforestation. Needless to
say, the consequences for the planet with deforestation, as trees function as
lungs of the planet, absorbing carbon dioxide and converting it into oxygen.
Waste paper are thrown away and not recycled are piling up
in landfills, which are increasingly saturated. And is that while the paper
does not take long to disappear as other products (plastics, for example)
consumed in large quantities and increasing piles in landfills.
To make paper you need to consume water, oil and energy.
Recycled paper avoids this waste.
It allows reuse paper converting a paper already used by
another that can give you a completely different use.
When manufacturing paper plant polluting gases expelled to
atmosphere. This issue would be reduced greatly increasing the percentage of
recycled paper.
With more and more paper waste destruction it is necessary,
causing the emission of greenhouse gases in processes aimed at this goal.
Paper recycling is still not sufficiently implemented in
practice the collective ideology, so it is a sector that still has much room
for expansion. Paper recycling can offer new jobs to professionals plants,
mechanical engineers, the transport sector, and may even lead to new
initiatives to open new routes or improve processes to recycle paper.
Finally, a simple data that hopefully you realize which is
not recycled paper. Did you know that to produce one ton of paper 17 adult
trees, nearly 30,000 liters of water, 1,500 liters of oil and 4,000 kilowatts /
hours of energy are needed? Do you also know that to produce one ton of paper
are emitted into the atmosphere about 30 Kg Of pollutants?
