Deforestation in Indonesia

It is estimated that in 2022 will have destroyed 98 percent of Indonesia's forests, mainly due to illegal logging, plantations for oil palm and forest fires.

Plantations for palm oil and biodiesel are the main cause of forest destruction in Indonesia and Malaysia. Collaterally, if current trends continue, native orangutans islands both countries, whose population has been reduced by 91 per way since 1900, will disappear in a couple of decades, as explained in Indonesian Deforestation Threatens Endangered Orangutans.
